Our carefully machined Air Dried Oak Shadow Gap Cladding is the perfect choice should you require a clean linear appearance as well as impeccable weather protection. Unlike a shiplap profile, with its distinctive shadow lines once fitted, the Shadow Gap profile offers a more smoother finish with its slimmer shadow gap, making it ideal for use on contemporary builds or extensions to an older property with the subtle shadow changing throughout the day as the sun hits it.

Air-dried oak (seasoned) is oak that has been dried since the tree was felled, either by spending 3-5 years exposed to air or by accelerated drying inside a kiln. This process reduces the moisture content to approximately 20-30% compared to that of our other oak cladding, making it more stable than a fresh sawn cladding product and less prone to shrinkage.

The boards used for this cladding are characterful and may have a small amount of sap to the underside, sound knots without limitation and occasional historic insect damage. If a higher grade with a more contemporary, straight grained, knot free appearance is required please take a look at our first grade offerings.

Being a natural product, you may also experience some colour variation and when in place, some natural movement as the timber adjusts to the changing seasons. These characteristics are to be expected and will give the beautiful natural distinctive appearance of oak.

This cladding is recommended for external use only. If exposed to varying weather conditions before fitting your boards, they are likely to cup, warp and split; the ideal time to fit cladding to keep this to a minimum is between the months of October and April and within 7 to 14 days of delivery.

Ready to fix and available in two options - First and Character Grade:

First Grade is sorted to include only the clearest (most knot free) boards with the straightest grain possible. A perfect choice for all modern and contemporary applications.

Character Grade will have a mixture of all top four grades, 1 through to 4 - some clear of knots and some straight grain, others with knots and some sloping grain. A perfect choice for all traditional/rustic applications, it gives a less uniformed look, without compromising its excellent durability properties.

We offer the following section sizes:

  • 142mm x 20mm - The overall width is 142mm, with the visible face measuring 122mm with 36mm tongue and square edges.

The visible face size is 20mm less to account for the joint and the namesake shadow gap which measures at 16mm. Please note that the sizes are nominal and may vary slightly.

Your boards will be supplied untreated. No treatments are required, however if you wish to preserve the supplied colour or use a weather resistant sealant, please take a look at our Treatex range. Should you wish to leave it to age gracefully, it will eventually turn to a beautiful silvery grey colour as the suns rays do their work.

This profile is priced per square metre and comes in random lengths between 1400mm and 3600mm unless otherwise specified for an additional charge:

  • Set lengths up to 3500mm - £4.00 extra per square metre exc VAT
  • Set lengths above 3500mm - £8.00 extra per square metre exc VAT
