Do you need top-notch performance without breaking the bank on oak shiplaps? British Larch shiplaps offer you just that: top performance at a fraction of the cost of oak shiplaps. With high resin content, British Larch shiplaps offer you double the lifespan of regular pine, and the attractive grain pattern in creams, pinks, and browns adds a touch of class that only becomes more attractive with time.
Available in First Grade (clear finish, contemporary look) or Character Grade (natural variation, rustic look) – same performance, different style.
Left in its natural state, Larch weathers to a beautiful silver grey. Want to keep it natural? It takes oils and stains beautifully too. It's your choice; both options work perfectly well.
For those who need the very best in a timber product, air dried oak leads the way. Its natural tannins give it unrivalled protection against rot, its grain provides a character that cannot be replicated, and properly fitted oak shiplap lasts longer than any building. Yes, it's more expensive than our other products – but our customers who choose it realise they are getting a once-only product.
The timber features characterful grain, sound knots, and that lovely appearance that improves with age rather than getting uglier like lesser timbers. This is premium timber at a fraction of the cost of any oak supplier.
Need to plan interior work where movement just can't happen? Our Kiln Dried Shiplap solves that problem. Oak for premium interior work, ash for a more elegant light finish, or Douglas Fir for a more budget-friendly interior finish – all three give stability in a heated environment.
Definitely worth every penny for feature walls, vaulted ceilings, and permanent installations where you need boards that stay put.
Thermowood Shiplap - New Age Performance Without Chemicals
Our Radiata Pine and Redwood Thermowood Shiplap is a high-performing option that provides stability and durability in a chemical-free environment. A rich brown colour that weathers to a dark grey/charcoal colour, ideal for internal or external use, and backed by our guarantees. And it's all done in a completely eco-friendly way. So, it's not only a great option for your building project, but it's great for the environment too.
The rebate on the edges of Shiplap planks is what makes it a Shiplap. This provides a joint that is superior to the overlap profile. When installed, Shiplap planks create a seamless joint that allows water to run off brilliantly. And, because it is a natural wood product, it is able to expand and contract naturally. So, when you run your hand over a Shiplap wall, you'll be hard-pressed to feel the joints. And it's not just a cosmetic look. Shiplap provides a profile that creates length. So, it's ideal for modern or traditional applications. And it looks great in a modern or traditional style. Because it is a profiled joint, it always looks like it has been professionally installed. And it is. Shiplap is a profiled joint that provides a smooth look. Water runs off it easily, and it power washes brilliantly. There is no water getting trapped in the overlaps, and no dirt buildup in the overlaps.
External Shiplap - Select from British Larch, Air Dried Oak, or Thermowood for proven performance in the British climate. All offer exceptional performance in harsh conditions. We recommend installation within 7-14 days of delivery and ideally between October and April to avoid movement from exposure to the British weather.
Internal Shiplap - Our kiln-dried oak, ash, and Douglas fir offer the stability required in heated interior spaces. No gaps, no warping, just beautiful shiplap that offers professional interior design solutions in modern and traditional settings.
First Grade - Sorted for the best, most knot-free, and straight grain. Suitable for modern interior spaces where appearance is critical. Ideal for contemporary interior design solutions.
Character Grade - A combination of our top four grades: clear, knots, grain pattern, and more. Suitable for traditional interior spaces where a rustic look is desired. Performs equally well to our First Grade but at a lower cost.
Both offer the same performance, just different appearances and costs.
End-Matching Available - Tongues and grooves on the end of our shiplap boards in addition to the edges. This offers joints without the need to align studs. A game-changer in terms of saving time and reducing waste. With end-matching, you can save hundreds of pounds in costs on larger schemes.
Precision Machining - Our shiplap boards are machined to exacting standards in our Midlands facility. Rebab edges offer the perfect shadow effect to give shiplap its professional look, while our precise machining ensures a perfect joint first time.
Custom Lengths On Demand - Our standard boards come in random lengths from 1200mm to 3600mm. Do you have specific length requirements to avoid wastage? We can cater for specific lengths for an additional charge, and experience shows that these charges are always worth it.
Sample Service - Order up to two samples for £5 postage (fully refundable on your cladding order). See the quality of our timber, touch and feel the precision of our machining, and make informed decisions before making large purchases.
The facts are simple. We machine our own material and buy in our timber. We don't have the overheads of multiple companies marking up our material as it travels down the supply chain. We consistently undercut competitors on like-for-like quality timber and are always happy to prove it.
Call us with a genuine quote and we will beat it on quality and price. We do this regularly as our business model allows us to trade on real prices available to everyone, not just account holders.

What is the difference between shiplap and tongue and groove?
Shiplap has a rebate - a groove along both lengths which gives an overlapping joint. Tongue and groove has a tongue on one edge and a groove on the other which gives a flush joint. Both profiles perform equally well - shiplap has deeper shadow lines, while T&G has a smoother surface.
Can shiplap be used outdoors?
Certainly! British Larch, air dried oak, and thermowood all perform exceptionally well outdoors in UK weather conditions. In fact, the rebate gives better protection than many other profiles.
First grade or character grade - which should I select?
It's entirely aesthetic! First grade gives a modern look with clean lines and minimal knotting. Character grade gives a traditional look with lots of character and knotting. Both perform equally well for durability and weather resistance.
Do I need to treat shiplap cladding?
Not for naturally durable species! British Larch and oak perform magnificently without any treatment whatsoever and develop beautiful silver-grey patinas over time. Want to retain original colour? UV oils work well too! Thermowood requires no treatment at all.
How much do I need?
Contact us and we will calculate your requirements including wastage. End-matching can also minimize waste on large projects; we will be able to advise whether it is cost-effective for your project.
What is better value for money, your Shiplap, or the large DIY stores?
Call us and we will compare. We believe that our quality of timber and precision engineering far outweighs anything available from Wickes and B&Q, and in addition, our pricing is more competitive for their lower-grade products.
How will it be used? Horizontally or vertically?
Either way is fine. Shiplap is designed for horizontal use, which emphasizes its length by creating shadow lines. Vertical is also fine for some applications.
How long will it last if used outdoors?
Our British Larch and Air Dried Oak will give 30+ years of external life, and in some cases, much longer. The rebated joints give excellent weathering performance, and combined with the natural durability of the woods, rot and decay are not an issue in this country even without treatment.
